DIY project fail: deck staining with a toddler running around

Tried to restain our deck last weekend with my 3yo "helping." He knocked over an entire bucket of stain. ENTIRE BUCKET. On his sister's bike, our patio, himself. We're still finding stain splatters. Wife suggested I just pay someone next time. I think she's right tbh. Anyone else just accept that certain projects need to happen when the kids aren't around or am I being a quitter?
