Finally building that workbench my kids can actually use

Been putting this off for like 6 months. Grabbed some 2x4s and plywood from Home Depot today. The plan is to make something sturdy enough that my 7 and 9 year old can safely use hand tools without destroying themselves. Thinking 4 feet long, good lighting overhead, and a pegboard for hanging tools. Anyone have tips for organizing the tool storage part so they don't just dump everything in a pile?

This is going to be so worth it. There's something special about having a real workspace at their level. My kids use mine all the time now and it's one of my favorite things we do together.

Dude yes, a workbench they can actually use is game changer. My kids are finally tall enough for mine and they've been out there almost every weekend. Just wait till they start building their own stuff. That's when it gets fun.

Six months of procrastination before finally grabbing the materials is the most relatable thing I've read all week. I have like five projects in my head that are in the 'about to start' phase. Curious how long the actual build takes once you get going.

That's awesome man, been there with the procrastination. Derek here - once you get that bench built sturdy, your kids are gonna love working alongside you on projects. The real magic happens when they're actually at the right height to help.
