Finally built that deck and the kids helped

Spent the last 3 weekends building a deck in the backyard with my 10 and 13 year olds. They held boards, we worked on measurements together, and honestly it was some of the best time I've spent with them in a while. Sure it would've been faster alone but having them there made it special. Deck turned out solid and now they actually feel ownership over it. Highly recommend getting your kids involved in projects like this even if it takes longer.

Congrats on finishing! I bet that deck looks solid. Did you teach them actual carpentry or just had them help where they could?

Getting them to hold boards is one thing but the fact they stuck with it for 3 weekends is impressive. That's a skill they'll remember. My kids did something similar with a garden bed last year and still talk about it.

That's the dream right there. Three weekends and your kids actually helped instead of complained? What was your trick to keep them engaged? My 10 year old checks out after like 20 minutes.
