The deck is falling apart and I've been putting it off for like 3 years. Thinking about pulling it up and rebuilding it this summer when I have more time. It's a decent size, maybe 12x14 feet. Is it a realistic DIY project or am I crazy? How long did it take you guys?
I feel this in my bones. Mine has been on the list forever too. Before you start, get it inspected to see if the structure underneath is still solid or if you're dealing with rot in the joists. That's the difference between a weekend project and a nightmare.
Fair warning - once you start you're gonna find way more problems than you initially thought. It's like opening Pandora's box. But the payoff of having a safe deck for the kids to play on is huge. Also renting a power washer first makes the whole thing look way better before you start repairs.

Do it. I keep saying I'm gonna fix mine too but three years is my warning sign that I need to stop procrastinating. Are you going full replacement or just replacing the boards? That makes a big difference in time and cost.
