First camping trip with the kids - tips?

Planning to take my 4 year old and 7 year old camping next month. We've got a tent and sleeping bags but I've never done this before. Any veterans have advice? Should I prep meals at home or try cooking at the campsite? How do I keep them entertained besides screens? Also how do I prevent them from running into the woods at 6am? Seems like it could go really good or really bad with no in between.

Bring way more snacks than you think you'll need, trust me. My kids treat camping like a constant treasure hunt so I pack granola bars like I'm prepping for a expedition. Make it fun and they'll sleep like rocks at night.

Start simple with a backyard camping trip first if you can. We did that before our real camping trip and it made the kids way less nervous about sleeping in a tent. Plus you can bail if something goes wrong without being stuck out there.

Bath time pro tip that carries over: bring wet wipes and a headlamp. Makes cleaning up before bed actually enjoyable instead of a battle, and the kids think the headlamp is the coolest thing ever.
