First time camping with the kids this spring?

We're thinking about taking the family camping for the first time in a few years. Kids are 4 and 7 now. Should we start with a campground or try something more remote? Do I need all new gear or can we just tent it with what we have? Also how do I keep them entertained at night when it gets dark at like 8pm? Any recommendations for spots in the midwest?

Start with a campground for sure, especially with a 4 year old. We did our first trip with established facilities and it made everything way easier. Once they get the hang of it, you can level up to backcountry stuff.

Definitely campground first. I'd bring way more snacks and entertainment than you think you need because those early mornings hit different when you're all tired. The kids will remember it forever though, totally worth the chaos.

Campground all the way on the first go. Twin boys taught me real quick that having bathrooms nearby is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Your 7 year old will probably love helping set up the tent though, good bonding opportunity.
