Planning our first real camping trip with the family in July. We're thinking about hitting up a state park about 2 hours away that has a lake. Got a tent that fits all 5 of us. Should I buy a camping stove or just do everything over the fire? Also any pro tips for keeping the kids entertained without screens? My oldest is 7 and youngest is 4.
First camping trip is huge! My advice: bring a camping pillow for yourself because you will not sleep, and make s'mores the star of the show. Kids forget about the bugs and the porta potty pretty quick when sugar is involved.
Two hours is a great distance for your first trip. We've hit a bunch of parks and the key is keeping expectations low and the attitude high. You guys will have a blast.

We did our first family camping trip last summer and honestly it was one of my favorite memories. Just get them tired enough during the day and they'll sleep. Have fun out there!
