Thinking about taking the fam (5, 8, and 11 year olds) out to Killbuck next month. We're in Columbus so it's like 90 min drive. Reviews seem mixed - some say it's gorgeous, others say it's crowded and the trails are boring for younger kids. Anyone done it with young kids? Which trails actually work for short legs? Also how early do we need to get there to find parking?
Go on a weekday if you can. We went on a Saturday and it was packed. Weekday morning was way better for us, kids could move at their own pace without dodging other hikers.
Bring way more water than you think you need. We underestimated with our 8yo and by mile 1.5 she was asking when we were going back.
We did Killbuck two years ago with kids similar ages to yours and honestly it was perfect for that range. The trails aren't brutal, water is beautiful, and your 11yo can handle it no problem. Parking was easy too which matters with three kids.
The drive is fine but your real question should be which trail at Killbuck. Some are way easier than others. Ask at the visitor center when you get there, they'll point you toward the right one for your crew.

Totally worth it from Columbus. It's like an hour twenty? We made it a full day thing, packed snacks, let them splash in the creek. The 5yo got tired but rode in our carrier backpack for part of it. Middle child had a blast.
