Taking the family hiking for the first time this summer. Kids are 6 and 9, so nothing too intense. Looking for something with a waterfall or nice view, maybe 2-3 hours of hiking max. We live in the Denver area. What are your go-to family hikes?
We did Emerald Lake last summer with our kids around those ages. Start early, bring like twice as much water and snacks as you think you need, and set expectations that everyone might move slower than you're used to.
We did Chasm Lake last summer and honestly it was perfect for our family. Not too long, amazing payoff at the end with the lake view, and there are spots to rest. Plus way fewer crowds than some of the super popular trails.
Sky Pond is amazing but might be a bit much for first timers. I'd say start with something like Bear Lake or Emerald Lake to see how the kids handle elevation. Nothing worse than a six year old bonking out halfway.
Golden Gate Canyon State Park has some really manageable trails too. The views are great without feeling like you're pushing them too hard. My 6 year old did it and only complained once.
Red Rocks is probably too intense for a first time with those ages, but Bear Lake Trail is perfect. It's only like 1.5 miles and the payoff is a lake at the end. Plus there's a parking area right there so if anyone gets tired you're not far from the car.

If you're near Denver you gotta check out Bear Lake Trail up near Estes Park. It's maybe 4 miles round trip and the views are incredible. The kids will be tired but happy at the end. Just bring way more water than you think you need.
