Hiking trip disaster almost ruined everything
Took the kids on a beginner trail at state park on Sunday. Did zero planning because I'm an idiot. Brought one water bottle for three people, forgot snacks, and my 6yo decided halfway through that her legs didn't work anymore. Had to carry her on my shoulders for like a mile while my 10yo complained about bugs. Wife was not happy. We did make it out okay but I learned a hard lesson about preparation. Going to actually plan the next one instead of just showing up.
Zero planning on a hiking trip with kids is basically asking for chaos. What happened? Did you forget water, snacks, extra clothes, or just completely underestimated the distance?
As a soccer dad I get how easy it is to just wing things and then regret it hardcore. At least you learned for next time. Did the kids have fun anyway or was it a total wash?
