Made sourdough starter with my kids and it's weirdly addictive
Started a sourdough culture with my 7yo daughter like 3 weeks ago. She feeds it every day, names it (currently "Bubbles"), and is genuinely invested. We finally made our first loaf yesterday and ngl it was actually pretty good. She wants to make it every weekend now. It's simple enough that she can do most of it with minimal help, and watching her understand that living things need to be taken care of is kind of cool. If you have little kids who like baking but are tired of cookies and cupcakes, highly recommend. Also the farmers market near us has some starter swap group which is apparently a thing people do???
One warning: sourdough can become obsessive (in a good way lol). If she gets really into it, she might want to experiment with ratios and fermentation times. You could have a tiny bread scientist on your hands.
