Planning a camping trip with the family

Never taken my kids camping before and we're going for it this spring. Renting a cabin instead of tent camping because I'm not insane. Got a local spot about 2 hours away with hiking trails. The hard part is figuring out what to pack with 2 kids ages 5 and 8. I know it's going to be chaotic but everyone keeps saying it's worth it. Anyone have tips for first time camping with young kids?

Cabin is the way to go for a first trip honestly. We rented one last spring and it took so much pressure off. No tent setup battles, actual beds, maybe a fireplace. The kids loved it way more than roughing it would have been.

Spring is perfect timing. You'll avoid the bugs and the crowds. Make sure you do some hiking or exploring nearby so they actually get tired out. Trust me on that one.

What's your game plan for keeping them entertained at night? That's always the hardest part for us. We bring cards, a few board games, and just accept that screen time rules get a little looser when camping.
