Just did a volcano experiment with my 7yo and 4yo using stuff from Dollar Tree - got food coloring, vinegar, baking soda, all for like $5. They loved it, way less messy than I expected, and honestly way cheaper than those science kit things. We did it three times because they kept asking. If you've got little kids and want to kill an afternoon, highly recommend.
Doing this this weekend with my 6yo. Did you do the whole eruption thing outside or in like a tray? Trying to figure out setup so it doesn't destroy the house.
We did this but added the tray suggestion from another comment and it was actually genius. Everything stayed contained, kids went nuts for like 45 minutes, total win. Props for sharing the idea.

Dollar Tree science experiments hit different. Our kids actually remember doing the volcano way more than we thought they would. Plus way cheaper than those pre-made kits that are 90% packaging anyway.
The less messy than expected part is key lol. I was ready for vinegar everywhere but it actually contained pretty well. My 4yo felt like a real scientist and that's worth the $5 easy.
The fact that it only cost $5 is amazing but what really gets me is you got quality family time AND the kids actually learned something. That's the whole win right there

Just grabbed supplies for like $4.50. Gonna try this tomorrow with my 6yo. If this keeps him entertained for even 30 mins I'm calling it a success
