Rain canceled our hiking plans and now I'm losing it
Had a whole day planned to tackle a local trail with my two boys and it's just pouring. They're bouncing off the walls. Send help. (jk... mostly)

How old are your boys? If they're like under 8, this is actually peak fort-building weather. Blankets, couch cushions, flashlights - they'll be occupied for hours and you can sit nearby pretending you're not also hiding from the rain
Can you reschedule the hike for this weekend or is the forecast just trash for days? If it's just today, maybe indoor rock climbing gym or even just a walk in the rain? Some kids love it once you make it fun instead of cancellation
This is why I keep a "rain day emergency box" with cheap toys and activities we only pull out on days like this. Breaks the "ugh stuck inside" feeling. Also wine helps
lmao "send help (jk... mostly)" - nah this is peak honest dad posting. Okay real answer: indoor fort building mission? Gets them moving without being destructive and burns energy

Bouncing off the walls is the worst. Rain days have a specific chaotic energy that regular indoor days don't have. Maybe lower your expectations for the day - like plan for controlled chaos instead of actual activities
YouTube has some solid "home workout" videos for kids if you want to burn energy without destroying the house. Or just let them run laps around the basement if you have one
