Just survived driving to my parents' house in Tennessee with our kids (5, 8, 12). Never again tbh. The 12yo had his Switch die 3 hours in. 8yo got carsick. 5yo asked "are we there yet" literally every 5 minutes. We stopped like 6 times. What am I doing wrong?? I see other families just cruising and I'm like "HOW"
lol the "are we there yet" every 5 minutes. my guy, I started telling my kids the ETA and then pointing at the GPS every time they asked. After the 20th time of "we're still 2 hours away" they finally got it

I feel this in my soul. We did 10 hours to Florida and I swear I aged a decade. The carsickness part is what really gets me tho—did your 8yo get sick multiple times or just the once?

Eight hours is brutal. We do 6 hours to visit my parents and I pad it with snack stops. Like legitimately every 90 mins we pull over for 10 mins. Costs more in gas but keeps everyone sane and honestly breaks it up so it doesn't feel as long
Tennessee from where? If it's more than 8 hours you might actually need to split it into 2 days. I know that sounds crazy but we tried the 10-hour push once with 3 kids and it was legitimately worse than just getting a cheap hotel halfway
The Switch dying at hour 3 is peak nightmare fuel. We learned the hard way to bring a power bank. Now I pack 2 of them plus like 5 different cable types. Also pro tip: dollar store activity books kept our 6yo occupied way better than screen time anyway
The carsick thing is no joke. We started giving our 7yo ginger chews before long drives and it genuinely helped. Also keeping her looking straight ahead at the road instead of down at a screen made a difference. Might be worth trying next time instead of never again lol
