We drove down from Seattle with the kids (6, 8, 11) and honestly it was way better than I expected. Yeah there was bickering and bathroom stops every hour, but when they saw Crater Lake for the first time? Worth it. We did the Cleetwood Trail (2.2 miles) and everyone could handle it. Rim Trail had the best views though. Planning to go back next year and maybe do more of it.
That age range is actually perfect for road trips. Old enough to entertain themselves but still excited about cool stuff. Did you do any of the hikes around there?
Coming from Seattle that's not too bad of a drive. We did something similar last year and honestly the snacks budget was bigger than I expected but the memories were worth it. Glad it went well.
Crater Lake is beautiful. How long did you spend there? I'm thinking about doing something similar with ours this summer but worried about the drive getting old for the kids.
Your 11 year old probably loved it. That's the age where kids actually appreciate scenery instead of just wanting to be home.

How did you handle bathroom breaks with three kids? That's my main concern with road trips.
