Science experiment Sunday - baking soda volcano exploded all over the kitchen

Ngl that was a disaster. Did the classic baking soda volcano with my 4yo but I vastly underestimated how much vinegar would be needed and it erupted like Mount Saint Helens all over the counter and floor. Red dye everywhere. My kid thought it was hilarious, my wife less so. We're gonna try again but smaller scale lol. Anyone else have epic experiment fails?
