Looking for advice on building a basic outdoor kitchen setup. I've got a decent sized patio and want to add a grill area with some counter space and maybe a mini fridge situation. I can do basic carpentry but haven't done anything this ambitious. Budget is around 1500-2000. Has anyone done this before? What should I definitely not cheap out on?

This is the perfect project for spring. We do a ton of outdoor cooking and entertaining and it brings the whole family together. Start with the basics - grill, counter space, maybe a sink if you can swing it.
Do it. Outdoor kitchens get used way more than people think, especially once the neighbors start smelling what you're cooking.
