Tackled the kids bathroom renovation and barely survived

Ripped out old tile and fixtures two months ago thinking it would be a quick weekend job. Found mold behind the walls, had to order new drywall, became a whole thing. Weekends for like 8 weeks straight. But last weekend we finally grouted the new tile and it actually looks professional. The kids picked the tile themselves which I regret sometimes but they love it. My wife is happy which means I'm happy. Already eyeing the master bath and she's threatening to leave me.

Two months is still not that bad for a bathroom reno honestly. I've got kids and a full time job so projects like this always take way longer than planned. Did you end up doing the work yourself or bringing in contractors?

This is why I don't start bathroom projects anymore. Every single time there's something hidden behind the walls. I just hire it out now and call it money well spent to keep my sanity.

Mold is the worst part. What was the damage like when you finally tore into the walls? I had the same situation in my upstairs bathroom and it turned into a whole house project.

Barely survived is the most honest way to describe a home reno with surprise complications. Respect for sticking with it though. That's the dad move right there.
