Tackling the kitchen remodel this summer

So my wife and I decided we're ripping out our 1987 kitchen and doing it ourselves to save money. I've got some construction experience but this is bigger than anything I've done. We're doing cabinets, counters, new sink, the whole thing. We're planning to do most of it over the next 8 weeks before school starts. Probably insane but I'm weirdly excited about it? Any kitchen remodel veterans have advice on what to prioritize first or common mistakes to avoid?

Saving money is smart but also be real about your timeline. Don't let this derail family time all summer. I've seen kitchen remodels test relationships real quick.

Ripping out a 1987 kitchen and DIY on top of that is ambitious. I respect it but man you're about to learn some things about yourself. Make sure you have a backup plan for eating if this stretches longer than expected.

That's a solid summer project. My advice is don't underestimate the demo phase and definitely budget extra for unexpected surprises. Old kitchens love to hide problems in the walls.

YouTube and Pinterest gonna be your best friends. Good luck with permits if your city requires them because that's where most DIY kitchen folks get tripped up.
