Took the boys camping for the first time without mom
Just me and the kids, ages 5 and 8, at a state park about 2 hours away. Tent setup was chaos, I forgot the stakes so we improvised with sticks and some paracord. First night the 5 year old was terrified of the dark and spent half the night in my sleeping bag. Second day we hiked to a waterfall and caught some tiny fish in a net. The 8 year old was in absolute heaven. Made some basic chili on the camp stove and we ate it straight out of the pot like animals. One of us almost got into the cooler (we're pretty sure it was a raccoon but could've been Bigfoot based on the kids' reaction). Coming home today and everyone is beat but talking about when we can go again. Definitely doing this more often.
