Took the kids camping for first time solo
Wife was at a conference so I loaded up the van with two kids aged 6 and 8, drove 3 hours to a state park, and we roughed it. Tent, campfire, no cell service. Full disclosure I overpacked, brought way too much food, forgot to charge my headlamp, and my youngest cried for 20 minutes when she saw a bug. But you know what? We sat around the fire, I made terrible jokes, we made s'mores, slept in a tent together. Morning coffee tasted amazing. My older son said it was the best weekend ever. Gonna do this monthly now.
This is what it's all about. I'm juggling work and coaching but this right here reminds me why we do the crazy stuff as dads. Nice work getting out there solo.
