Tried the nature scavenger hunt thing - kids loved it
Made a simple list: find a pinecone, a rock, something red, a leaf with holes in it, etc. My 7yo and I did it on a 30 min walk around the neighborhood and she was SO engaged. No screens, no complaining about being bored. Probably the easiest win I've had in a while. Gonna do this weekly now.
This is such a great idea. The specificity of those items is perfect - not too easy ("find a tree") but achievable. Did she want to do it again or was it a one-time thing?
The 30 mins duration is key too. Long enough to actually explore but short enough that attention doesn't completely crater. My kids used to get bored on longer walks but with a specific mission they're locked in
