What's a good first camping trip with a 4 year old?

Planning our first real camping trip and don't want to go too hard right away. Was thinking 1 night somewhere close to home so if it's a disaster we're not stuck in the middle of nowhere. Anyone have suggestions for camping spots that are kid friendly but not crazy crowded? What gear should I definitely have?

One night is perfect for a first trip. I did the same thing with my 4 year old and honestly it was just right. Not too overwhelming but enough to test out the gear and see what works.

Keep it super close to home too. We drove like 45 minutes from our house so if something went wrong we weren't far away. Made it way less stressful than going remote.

Make sure you practice setting up your tent and gear before you go. Sounds basic but doing it in your backyard first saved us from a disaster on the actual trip.
