Winter break camping - has anyone done it?

We're thinking about trying a camping trip over winter break instead of our usual holiday family stuff. Probably like 2-3 nights, nothing crazy. I know it'll be colder (we're in Oregon) but thinking it could be less crowded and kinda cool? Kids are 8, 10, and 13 so old enough to not complain as much (lol). Has anyone done this? Is it actually enjoyable or am I setting us up for misery? Realistic answers only plz.
