Anyone else feel guilty leaving work early for school events?

My daughter has her 3rd grade play Friday at 2pm. It's literally one of the biggest things happening in her world right now but I have back to back meetings that day. I know I could reschedule them but there's this voice in my head saying I should just skip the play and be a professional. How do you guys balance this? Is it actually career suicide to leave for these things or am I just being paranoid?

I've done this dance a hundred times with my two kids and the little league games. Those back to back meetings will still be there next week but that play happens Friday. Your daughter needs her dad there more than your inbox needs you.

Three under five here and I've learned the hard way that you can't get these moments back. Skip the meetings, reschedule if you have to. She's in 3rd grade, this is THE moment for her. Your career will be fine.

Man, those school plays are gold. I leave early for my kids' stuff all the time and honestly my boss gets it now. Your daughter will remember you being there way more than your boss will remember those meetings. Go to that play.
