Boss asking why I leave at 5pm now

Before my son was born I would stay late all the time and grab drinks with work people. Now I have to pick him up from daycare by 5:30 and I'm actually leaving on time. My boss made a comment yesterday about my 'new priorities' in a way that definitely felt like a dig. I'm still doing my job well, it's just a different schedule now. Anyone deal with this kind of pressure at work?

Stand your ground on this. The drinks and staying late don't matter when your kid is waiting at daycare. I had to have this conversation too and it was awkward but I'd do it again every time.

This is real talk - you're allowed to change. Your boss might not get it now but he will when he has kids. Five pm pickup is non-negotiable and good on you for owning that boundary.

Your priorities shifted and that's the right move. My boss learned real quick that I wasn't staying late anymore once I became a dad, and honestly my work got better because I was more focused during the actual work day.
