Got offered a promotion that would mean way more hours and probably some travel. Six figures which we need, but my oldest starts middle school next year and I wanted to be more involved not less. My wife said it's my call but we both know what that really means. Feels like I gotta choose between being a good provider and a good dad. This sucks.
This is tough because both are real and valid. The financial security matters and being present matters. Have you talked to your family about what they'd actually prefer? Sometimes the answer comes from a different perspective.
Man this is the decision right there. Six figures is significant but you can't get those years back. What does your gut say about it? Mine always tells me the truth if I actually listen to it.
I turned down something similar two years ago. Best decision I made. The money would've been great but the cost to my family was too high. You can always chase promotions but you can't get your kid's childhood back.

Depends on your priorities and honestly your family situation. I took on more hours and I regret it. Every day at work I'm thinking about what I'm missing. Just my experience though.
