Career advancement vs being present for my kids

Got offered a promotion but it would mean traveling 2 weeks a month. My kids are 4 and 6. I know I should take the advancement but my gut is screaming no. My wife says she'll support whatever I decide but I can feel the pressure from my company. This shouldn't be this hard. Did anyone turn down opportunities to stay more present? Do you regret it?

I didn't take the career track that required travel and honestly it was the right call for me. Your kids are at such a cool age right now. By the time they're older the travel might feel different but these years go fast.

The question is what do you want to be known for in five years? The promotion or being the dad who was actually there? Only you can answer that but I'll be honest, the career opportunities come back around.

That's a tough one. I turned down a similar opportunity when my kids were around that age and don't regret it. The promotion will still be there in a few years and your kids are only 4 and 6 once. That said only you know what's right for your family.
