Got offered a promotion that would mean traveling 2 weeks a month. Good money, better title, but I'd miss so much. My kids are 4 and 7. Wife thinks I should go for it but I'm not sure. Some of you guys have families and climbed the ladder, how did you make it work or did you pass on stuff?
That's a tough call. Two weeks a month is basically half your kids' lives gone. I turned down something similar because at the end of the day the money isn't worth missing that much time.
Being present beats a promotion in my experience. I've seen guys take those traveling roles and it messes with the family dynamics. What does your gut tell you?
This is the hardest dad decision. Career advancement is great but you can't get those moments back. Maybe talk to the company about the travel requirements before you decide?

I'd really think hard about this one. The title and money are nice but 2 weeks a month is a lot of time away from home. Can you negotiate down to like 1 week a month or work something else out?
