Got offered a promotion that would mean traveling about 30% of the time. Money would be really good and it's something I've been working towards. But my oldest just started school and my youngest is only 18 months. Part of me knows I should take it but another part thinks I'd regret missing this time. Wife is supportive either way. This is tough.
30% travel is a lot of missed dinners and barbecues with the family. Good money doesn't mean much if you're not around to enjoy it with them, you know?
Man, I get it. I turned down a similar offer a few years back because I didn't want to miss the snow days and sled hill time with my three. The money's tempting but you can't get those years back with the kids.
This one's brutal because both things matter. More money helps your family obviously but 30% travel means you're gone a month out of every three. Can your family handle that rhythm?
Talk to your kids about what they actually need from you. Might surprise you. Sometimes the answer isn't what you expect.

That's a tough one. The travel would kill a lot of those weekend cooking projects and family time. Only you know if the promotion is worth what you'd miss, but I'd think hard about it.
