Career vs Family: forced to choose

Got laid off from my finance job in January. Was a wake-up call honestly. Took some time to think about what I actually wanted instead of just climbing the ladder. Decided to take a role at a smaller company that pays less but offers flexibility and remote work. New job starts next month.

My parents think I'm insane for taking a pay cut. But I want to see my kids more than twice a day. Curious if anyone else made a similar move and if you regret it?

That finance job probably had you gone a lot anyway right? Sometimes getting laid off is the universe saying slow down a bit. Did you find something new or still figuring it out?

The fact that you're calling it a wake-up call instead of a disaster tells me you've got the right perspective now. A lot of dads struggle with the identity thing when work goes away.

January layoff gang here too. Worst timing with the holidays but honestly the best thing that happened to me career wise. Took three months and found something way less stressful.

This is real. Spent 15 years in finance and missed basically all my oldest kid's childhood. Got laid off at 48 and actually grateful for it now even though it sucked at the time.
