Company eliminated my role but offered a "new opportunity"

This happened last week and I'm still processing. My marketing job got restructured and they're offering me a senior role in a different division. More money, bigger title, also seems like more hours. My kids are 8 and 11 and honestly things have been pretty good with my schedule lately. The smart career move is obvious but the family move? Not sure. Has anyone turned down a jump like this? Talked themselves into it? What should I be asking myself right now?

That's not really an offer it's a trap. "More money, bigger title, also seems like more hours" - the also is the whole thing. What are we talking, 50 hours? 60? Know before you decide

Ask them straight up: what does "more hours" mean in actual weekly numbers and can you work any of them remote. That bigger title doesn't matter if you never see your kids. The money matters less once they're grown and you didn't get to raise them

Restructure usually means they found someone cheaper to do your old job and are dangling the "opportunity" to keep you from walking. Not always! But often. Get it in writing what those hours actually are

Honestly consider taking a week before deciding. Don't rush into it because you're processing shock. Sleep on it, talk to your wife about what MORE HOURS really means for the family. Then decide. This is a major thing
