Daycare costs are INSANE

Seriously. $2200/month for my 2-year-old in the DC area. That's more than my car payment, more than our mortgage payment almost, and it's literally the cheapest option near us. I'm doing the math and if we had a third kid, we'd be paying almost $6500/month on daycare alone. How are other people making this work? At what point does it make more sense for one parent to just... not work? Genuinely asking because I feel like we're at that breaking point.
