Quick rant: we're paying $2,100/month for our 2yo at a decent (not even fancy) daycare in the SE Portland area. That's basically my car payment times two. I love our daycare but the cost is actually making me consider leaving my job some days. How is this sustainable? What are people doing? We have no family nearby so we can't ask parents to help. Do I just... accept this as a cost of living here?
The SE Portland prices are out of control. We ended up going with a home-based daycare and it's $800 cheaper a month. Still good care but we saved our sanity

2,100 is absolutely wild. Have you looked into any of the subsidy programs for Portland families? I know a few people who qualified and it actually made a dent in the cost
