Anyone in the PNW? We got a quote from a center near Ballard - $2,850/month for our 18mo old. TWO THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS. My wife makes good money but like... this is basically her entire salary going to someone else watching our kid. Meanwhile we're both working 50+ hour weeks.
Looking at nanny shares but everything is backordered until 2025. How are families doing this??
Have you checked if your employer offers dependent care FSA? Not a total fix but can save you some money through taxes at least.
Ballard prices are insane right now. Have you checked anything further south or east? I found a good place in Beacon Hill that was 200 less per month but it's a longer commute.
This is why so many Seattle families are moving or having one parent drop to part time. The math just doesn't work when daycare costs more than rent on a regular apartment.
That's roughly what we're paying in West Seattle for 18 months. It's absolutely brutal. We looked at nanny shares as an option but even those are creeping up to like 2200.
I've heard some daycares have discounts for second kids after your first hits three or so, but yeah the early years are the killer financially.

We did daycare for both kids in the Bay Area and it was like 3200 for one. Seattle is expensive but not quite there yet. Not that it helps you right now though sorry.
