We're paying $2,400/month for one kid at a supposedly mid-range place in Ballard. TWENTY FOUR HUNDRED. That's almost 30% of our household income.
I've heard horror stories about the in-home places too - kids getting sick constantly, owners who don't really care. Has anyone found a legitimate affordable option in the area or are we just supposed to accept this financial reality?
Have you looked into what the state subsidies are if you qualify? Might not help with the cost but worth checking the eligibility.
Yeah Seattle daycare is out of control. We looked at places in Ballard too and nearly had a heart attack at the quotes. Some places wanted twenty eight hundred.
That's absolutely criminal. I pay less than that for mortgage. Have you looked into any of the co-op options or nanny shares? Might be cheaper.
Two thousand four hundred is what we paid three years ago and it's probably up to three grand now. This city is getting ridiculous for families.
Welcome to the PNW cost of living nightmare. For real though you might check if your employer offers any subsidies or benefits for childcare. Some places do.

I feel your pain man. We moved our situation around and found a place in West Seattle that's like four hundred less per month. Still insane but better than Ballard.
