Got offered a promotion but it means travel
Good news bad news situation. Company wants me to step up to regional manager which is a solid bump in pay and finally gets me off the grind I've been on for 6 years. Problem is it requires like 40% travel. My daughter is 9 and she's in the middle of soccer season. My wife is starting her own thing with her career again. Haven't told her yet because I know what the answer will be. Part of me wonders if I'm at the stage where I need to just accept I can't climb the ladder anymore, at least not till they're older. Any of you guys turned down opportunities because of your kids?
This is tough. I turned down a bigger title because it meant being out of town too much. Promotion still sitting there but my kids are only young once. You gotta run the numbers on whether the extra money is worth missing stuff.
