Is remote work ruining my relationship with my kids?
I work from home 4 days a week and I thought it would be perfect. But honestly the lines between work and dad time have gotten so blurry. I'm in back to back meetings while they're doing online school in the next room and even though I'm physically there I'm not really present. My wife is frustrated because she's still doing most of the parenting during the day even though I'm home. How do other remote dads actually make this work?
This is the trap nobody talks about enough. You're physically home but mentally you're at work, so the kids know you're not really available. Have you tried setting hard off-hours like no work after 5?
Honestly the relationship part gets better once they're older and understand you're working. Right now your toddler just sees dad ignoring them which sucks for everyone. It gets easier.
