Just Got Asked to Lead a Major Project, Baby Due in 3 Months
My boss offered me the promotion and lead role on our biggest project of the year today. It's exactly what I've been working toward. But my wife is about to hit third trimester and we're both nervous about timing. The project runs 6 months. I could ask to defer but that might look bad. Has anyone else dealt with this? How do you balance career advancement with being present for your family during big life moments? I want both but feel like I'm about to choose one.
Exciting but terrifying, right? I'd definitely talk to your boss about the reality of having a newborn while leading a major project. Some managers get it, some don't, but it's worth being upfront about what you can actually handle.
