Just got back from a 4-day work trip and my 4yo didn't remember me

That's an exaggeration but she was COLD to me. Took hours for her to warm up. My wife said she asked about me every day but I guess that wears off. This is my third trip this quarter and I'm starting to think I need to have the hard conversation with my boss about travel expectations. Why am I even chasing these clients if I'm missing my kids growing up? Anyone dealt with high-travel jobs and actually made it work, or is it just impossible?
