So I put in my request for an extra 2 weeks and HR basically said no without much explanation. My wife is still struggling with postpartum stuff and I feel like I'm abandoning her by going back full time next week. Anyone else deal with pushback from their company? I'm in tech so I thought we'd be more flexible about this stuff but apparently not.
That's rough man, especially when your wife needs you home. I've been in the paternity leave fight before and it sucks that HR wasn't straight with you about why. Have you tried pushing back or asking what the actual barrier is?
Two more weeks would make a real difference right now given what you're dealing with. I'd document everything about her postpartum situation and go back at them - sometimes a second request with specifics gets a different answer.

I feel you on this one. When my third was born I couldn't get the extension I needed either. Sometimes you gotta push back or look at other options like flexible hours. Don't just accept the no.
This is why I hate dealing with HR. Two weeks is standard at most places these days. Have you asked if you can take unpaid leave instead? Or if there's flexibility in how you use your time off?

That's frustrating man. Two weeks is nothing in the grand scheme of your kid's life and HR should get that. Did they give you any reason at all or just a flat no?
