The catch is it would mean 15 percent more travel and longer hours. My oldest starts high school next year and my youngest is only 7. I've been grinding at this company for 8 years and this feels like the opportunity I've been waiting for but man the timing sucks. Have you thought about negotiating the terms? Like maybe less travel or flexibility on the hours? Sometimes companies have more wiggle room than they initially offer. Might be worth asking before you say yes or no.

This is exactly why I went remote. My kids are in that critical age where they need me present, not just physically there. I'd ask hard questions about what this promotion actually costs you in real terms.
Tough spot man. I turned down a similar offer two years ago when my oldest was starting middle school and honestly I don't regret it. Those years go so fast and high school is when they actually need you around more. The money's nice but you can't get that time back.

I'd sit down and do the math on what that promotion really costs you in time with the kids, especially with the big transition coming up. Sometimes the extra money isn't worth what you lose at home.
