Just got offered remote work - should I take it?

Long time lurker, first time posting. Got offered a remote position with a 5% pay cut but I'd save the commute time and gas. My kids are 4, 7, and 9. My wife works part time. Part of me thinks being home more would be amazing but the other part worries about being too distracted or the boundaries between work and home falling apart. Also losing that 5 percent stings. Anyone made this switch? Pros and cons?

Run the numbers on your expenses. Factor in gas, childcare pickup time, the stress of commuting. Most people find the 5% isn't a real loss once you add it all up.

I'd do it. Being home more and having that flexibility with the kids is worth more than 5% in my opinion. Plus remote work usually means you can actually eat lunch with them sometimes.

That's a tough call but the math on saving commute time and money is real. 5% pay cut stings but if you're looking at gas, wear and tear, and lost time with your kids, it might wash out. What does your gut say?

Only thing I'd push back on is making sure your workplace culture is actually set up for remote work. Some places say yes but make it impossible to actually disconnect.
