Just got yelled at by my boss for missing a meeting

The meeting was at 2pm. My 7 year old had a fever of 103 so I picked him up from school. I texted my boss that I'd be 15 minutes late but apparently that wasn't good enough. He launched into this whole thing about commitment and priorities. My kid is literally everything and sometimes I resent having to pretend work comes first. Anyway looking for new jobs if anyone has leads lol.

Man, that's rough. A 103 fever is no joke - you made the right call picking him up. Your boss needs to understand that sometimes family comes first. Hope your son feels better soon.

Did your boss respond to the text you sent? I've learned that covering my butt early with a message to my manager makes all the difference. At least it shows you were communicating and not just ghosting.

This is exactly why I fought so hard to go remote. I missed too many of these moments early on and I'm not missing anymore. Have you looked into whether your company has any flexibility options?
