Just took 8 weeks paternity leave and it changed everything
Honestly I was nervous about it. Worried about falling behind at work. But being here for my newborn and supporting my wife through recovery was the best decision I've made professionally. I came back to find my team actually ran fine without me constantly checking in. I'm more efficient now because I'm not paranoid about missing things. If your job doesn't allow paternity leave, seriously look elsewhere. Your kids will only be babies once.
This is awesome to hear. Everyone told me I'd lose my edge but honestly I came back refreshed and way more focused. Those 8 weeks I was completely present for my kid's milestones. No amount of work stuff compares to that.
Did your company have formal paternity leave or did you have to negotiate it? I'm thinking about asking for something similar but want to know how you approached the conversation with your boss.
