So I'm supposed to have 12 weeks but my manager is already asking if I can come back at 8 weeks for a "critical project". My son is barely sleeping through the night and my wife is barely holding it together. I feel guilty saying no but I also feel guilty thinking about leaving them. Anyone else deal with this pressure? How do you handle it without tanking your career?
Four months in and I'm still amazed how much my youngest changed in those first weeks. You're not just helping your wife, you're bonding with your son during the most important time. Protect that leave.
Stand your ground on this one. I learned the hard way that no project is worth missing those early weeks with your kid. Your son needs you there, and honestly you need that time too. They'll survive without you for 12 weeks.
That's a tough spot. Eight weeks is already short, but your manager trying to pull you back early is not cool. You negotiated for 12 weeks for a reason. Those early weeks with a newborn are everything. Is there any HR policy that protects your leave, or is your manager just pushing boundaries?
Stand your ground on this one. I took my full 8 weeks and it still felt rushed. 12 weeks is what you earned. Your manager can figure it out for 4 more weeks. This is on them, not you.
Just went through this exact thing. My boss started sending me emails at 6 weeks asking when I'd be back. I'm not gonna lie, it messed with my head because I felt guilty. But then I realized that's exactly the pressure they want you to feel. Stick to your 12 weeks. You can't get these weeks back.

Every manager says it's critical, but it never actually is. With twins I had to learn to just say no to the early return requests. Those first 8 weeks go fast enough already, trust me.
