Just turned down a promotion to stay in my current role

Took the hardest W's today. Director position opened up in my department - would've been a 15% bump and "the next step" in my career. But it's 60% travel, lots of evenings, and my kids are 5 and 7. We did the math and even with the raise, I'd barely see them during the school year. My wife was supportive either way but I just... couldn't do it. Nobody's ever going to remember the promotion I didn't take, but my kids will remember if their dad wasn't around. Feels weird to be at peace with it though ngl.
