My kid got sick at school and I had to leave a client meeting

Got the call from the school nurse, my son had a fever and needed to be picked up. I was in the middle of pitching to a potential client. Had to excuse myself and leave. My boss wasn't happy but what was I supposed to do? That's my kid. Feeling pretty resentful about the expectation that I should somehow manage being a dad and a full time employee without any conflicts. Does anyone else deal with that guilt or is it just me?

Every time. The choice between your job and your kid is no choice at all. Your client will get over it. Your kid needs his parent.

How did the client react? I've always wondered if it actually damages things or if people are more understanding than we think.

This is the part of working parenthood nobody talks about. You're going to choose your kid over the meeting every single time and somehow still feel guilty. You shouldn't though.
