My second kiddo is due in 2 months and I'm trying to figure out what to request from my company. I took 2 weeks with my first and honestly it wasn't enough time. I'm thinking about pushing for 4 weeks this time but I'm worried about looking uncommitted at work. What did you guys do? How much time did you actually use and was it enough?
Two weeks isn't much honestly. I'd push for at least 4 if your company allows it. That second kid is a different beast and you'll want more time to adjust as a family.
Don't leave time on the table man. Take as much as you can get. You can't get those early weeks back and your wife will need you more than you think.
Most companies are cool about it now. I got 8 weeks paid and 4 weeks unpaid. Depends on your benefits but definitely ask for more than you think you can get. Worst they say is no.
Congrats on the second one! I took 6 weeks with mine and wish I'd negotiated for 8. Those first weeks go so fast and you don't want to miss them tied to email.

Take as much as you can. I know money matters but you can't get this time back. I did 4 weeks and regretted not asking for more. Your company will survive a couple months without you.
